Meet Daryl Gawroriski, our New Jersey Branch Manager

What town do you live in?
I live in South Amboy, NJ and have been there for about 4 years, but I am originally from Daytona Beach, Florida.

How did you first learn about A Royal Flush?
I learned about ARF through my family in New Jersey. Actually, to be honest, it was my sister’s friend on her bowling league who told her about the company. She was the previous manager.

How long have you worked for A Royal Flush?
I have been working for ARF for over 3 years. I started off as pick-up and delivery, was promoted to Assistant Manager and then and grew to my role today.

What does a typical day at work look like for you?
On a typical day, I arrive at 6 in the morning. I first make sure that all is ok with dispatch and the routes for the day, and that there are no issues with service trucks before guys go out. I like to make sure that everyone is all set for their day. Then I focus on getting pickup and deliveries ready for the day. Throughout the day I focus on operations, and staying on top of things. It is important to make sure that everyone is keeping pace on the road and at the yard. I am also regularly in a truck on the road. Each day is very different, which is what I like, it keeps it interesting and keeps me on my toes.

What is your favorite part about working for A Royal Flush?
My favorite part of working for ARF is the career path that I am on. I know that with ARF I have the potential to grow and be something greater. Business is thriving, and I keep taking on more responsibility. My goal is to one day run a branch down in Florida where I am from.

What do you like to do on your days off?
I like to ride my KTM 450 Enduro dirt bike around Jackson, NJ. I like the freedom; it’s just me and my bike and the terrain. If I’m not doing that, then I’m with family. Everyone is close by, which is why I moved to NJ.

Do you have any hidden talents?
I enjoy woodworking, whittling, sculpture, and dremel work. I usually make small sculptures and give them as presents and gifts. I learned how to do all this by just growing up out in the woods, and playing with knives as a kid.

If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
It would be to learn how to trade on the stock market, so I can make some extra play money.

Who is your mentor?
Thomas Rowland, who is the Area Manager at A Royal Flush. He has helped me through a lot of stuff both at work and at home. I talk with him and we run through different scenarios on what to do. He’s a very intelligent man.

What is your most memorable experience working at A Royal Flush?
For the past two years I have been on the New York City Marathon Team. I am in charge of delivering restroom trailers for the bridge and portable toilets for police officers on duty. I have to stay in the truck all night on the Verrazano bridge, but it’s necessary because it’s the first drop. The bridge is barricaded and I am positioned right at the start. There are a lot of safety precautions in place. I am there to see every wave of runners take off from the start. I am there until the last runner takes off. It’s a big and important event, which raises money for foundations and helps a lot of people, and it’s very cool to be part of it.

What else do you enjoy about working at A Royal Flush?

One of my favorite events is the Sea. Hear. Now Festival which we specialize in and takes place at Asbury Park, New Jersey. We provide toilet trailers and restroom services for the festival, and it is a large one. I have heard bands that I never thought I would get the chance to see. And I like the troubleshooting aspect of the big events. I am able to utilize my skills and learn something new every day.

The Blue Book Building and Construction Network is considered the “who’s who” of the commercial construction industry. Tim Butler, principal owner and Chairman of the Board, and Mauro DaSilva, owner and COO are proud to represent A Royal Flush as the company continues to welcome growth in the 2019 year.

The article reflects on the history of our portable bathroom company, and how determination and hard work has paved a path to success.

“In 2017, the odds were stacked against A Royal Flush, one of the largest portable restroom and toilet trailer rental leaders in the Northeast. The sudden passing of its principal owner, majority shareholder and driving force of the organization, Bill Malone, left its workforce with questions about the company’s direction. For a highly successful business with a portfolio including some of the largest construction companies in the area, as well as some impressive event clients such as New York Road Runners and the PGA, to suddenly pause and reflect on its strategy was so significant, it became cause for speculation.”

Our team at A Royal Flush quickly regrouped and came up with a plan of action to secure our position as an industry leader for portable bathroom rentals. “Tim Butler stepped up as the primary owner, and Mauro DaSilva transitioned to COO. Then they doubled down on the long-term growth of the company, investing in its people and cutting-edge technology, as well as new innovations—all with a renewed focus on the construction and municipality markets. The changes were immediate and put rumors to rest about the legacy of the company and the future of its services and employees.”

DaSilva gives his praise to Butler, confirming that Tim’s appointment as principal owner of the portable bathroom company was just what the team needed. “Tim stepping up is the best thing that ever happened to A Royal Flush,” Mauro says. “He cares about everything—the employees, the customers. He’s a good man. We have great employees who have worked for the company for 20 to 25 years. They all work together to do a great job for the clients. We have a team with knowledge and real experience that separates us from other companies out there.”

Another driving force behind the company’s success is the investment in technology and modern equipment. “Tim and Mauro took a chance to not play it safe and to not simply maintain the status quo of the business, but to invest in technology, in people and to ignite a large-scale sales restructure to develop a stronger outbound and inbound sales team. And the gamble paid off.”

Mauro states, “We have a new system that we rolled out that has a barcode in each unit that the driver has to scan every time he cleans it.” Mauro adds, “We have GPS on all our trucks so we can see when they arrive at a construction site and how long they are there. There’s no cutting corners. We make sure our clients are taken care of.” The company also invested in new toilets, restroom trailers and its service fleet. The leaders bought a new line of trucks and stayed current with the industry by providing new construction units and lighter-weight equipment that’s easier to move, as well as green technology, including solar panels.”

Tim and Mauro also saw the importance of investing in our people by “providing better health care, better training and educational opportunities, as well as safer working environments and new opportunities for our employees and sales force to grow.”

Another key player Tim and Mauro added to the team is Chris Callaghan. Chris has built a reputation as being a “sales professional with more than 30 years’ of experience in media, advertising and sales. In June 2018, Chris was brought on board to help grow the construction business to the next level and provide a strategy and vision for the future. “The construction segment of our business has always been our top priority,” Mauro says. “We recently bought over 500 toilets just for construction and we have 15 new trucks that are dedicated solely to construction use.”
